Most companies don't take advantage of all of the technological resources available today. JanPak, Inc, however, firmly believes in embracing the best technology available. A distributor of janitorial and packaging supplies, JanPak has over 50 years experience delivering a wide variety of products to businesses throughout the southeast and Texas.
Headquartered in Davidson, NC, JanPak is focused on exceeding customers' expectations. JanPak services a broad range of businesses with top market segments including industrial manufacturing, educational and government institutions, healthcare, food processors and distribution.
With over 14,000 delivery locations, distributed throughout 11 regions, JanPak realized the inefficiency of manually routing their daily invoices. Not only was this a timely process, but they discovered that nearly half of the printed invoices were incorrect. Routing became progressively more time consuming as they acquired additional customers. Employee overtime expenses were at an all time high, and a back up router was not available. To further complicate JanPak's situation, their Dallas and Ft. Worth locations were being merged into a larger, centrally located facility.
Tony Able, General Manager at the Dallas facility, had heard about UPS Logistics Technologies' routing and scheduling product called Roadnet. Tony presented the solution to upper management, and without hesitation they licensed Roadnet for implementation in four of their regions. "We selected Roadnet for its daily route optimization, efficiency, and cost reduction features," Tony explained.
Due to the Dallas / Ft. Worth consolidation, Roadnet would be implemented at this location first, followed by their North Carolina, South Carolina and Florida facilities. "We had expected to see results two years after implementation, and to our surprise we began seeing results immediately," David Simmons, Director of IS, explained. "Within the first six months of using Roadnet we not only consolidated two locations with ease but we actually took a truck off the road in the process. And we plan to remove another vehicle by the end of the first year."
At the Dallas / Ft. Worth facility, JanPak typically sends out a minimum of 17 trucks on a daily basis. With Roadnet, they can now manage driver hours by tracking runtime. As a result, JanPak is experiencing significant savings on driver and operational overtime expenses.
Routing time has also been reduced, what was taking over four hours to route the Dallas / Ft. Worth facility, now takes about 1 hour to route. "This is a considerable savings that allows us to utilize resources in other areas of our business," states David.
Results that JanPak has seen since implementing Roadnet:
- 75% decrease in routing time
- Reduced fleet size by 1 vehicle in the first six months
- Consolidated two facilities with ease despite business growth
- Reduced overtime and driver burnout
Roadnet has been the long-awaited answer to JanPak's routing inefficiencies. Both management and drivers at JanPak have worked together to come up with an optimal route plan, and it has surpassed their expectations. "We are more than satisfied with the results that Roadnet has shown us, and consolidation of the Dallas / Ft. Worth facility could not have been achieved without it. I would definitely encourage other distribution companies to experience the advantages of Roadnet for themselves".
UPS Logistics Technologies will continue to support JanPak's growth by providing them the tools necessary for exceeding their organization's goals.
